For the more conservative, a self-respecting sports car should have a large engine and, preferably, a manual transmission. The 718 Boxster GTS goes against all that and still bears the weight of being a Porsche, one of the most traditional sports car manufacturers on the planet.

The G1 walked in the model, which starts from R $ 485 thousand, to take the test if the sports car from Stuttgart can also occupy the garage of the purists.

In its new generation, it got a turbocharged engine with only 4 cylinders. In Brazil, it is still offered only with automatic transmission – the efficient 7-speed PDK, to be clear.

(Almost) nothing is free

There is no way to talk about a car so flashy without starting with values. In addition to costing R $ 485 thousand, the unit evaluated by G1 was equipped with numerous options.

Porsche does not disclose the final value of the specimen. A configuration made on the brand website with most of the items of the unit tested reaches R $ 553,210, R $ 68,210 of which is only optional (some of the selected ones add others automatically). See the list:

  • Body painted in blue Miami Blue: R $ 13,587;
  • Banks with contrasting GTS inscriptions: R $ 10,173;
  • Full-LED headlights: R $ 6,415;
  • Headlight washers painted in the vehicle's color: R $ 1,171;
  • Anti-roll bars painted in shiny black: R $ 2,931;
  • Mobile airfoil painted in shiny black: R $ 2,001;
  • Ambient lighting package: R $ 1,725;
  • Rear camera and parking sensors front and rear: R $ 3,793;
  • Bose sound system: R $ 6,827.

It is worth saying that the customization options are very detailed and can escape our eyes. That is, the bill must be even greater.

Be careful when you underestimate the 718 Boxster GTS 2.5 four-cylinder engine. There are 365 horsepower and 43.9 kgfm of torque combined with the 7-speed PDK automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

Going beyond the numbers, it is also always worth remembering that this is a legitimate Porsche. In other words, it doesn't even cross the mind of those who are behind the wheel that right behind (the engine is central-rear) there is no "big engine" of at least six or eight cylinders.

The result of this is a 0 to 100 km / h in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 290 km / h. 4 of 9

The accelerations are pleasurable, both due to the force delivered, and the low snoring – a button can make the sound even more full-bodied. Downshifts even allow for "popcorn" in the exhaust.

The steering obeys the driver in a millimeter precise way and the suspension does not pass as many "blows" to the occupants, despite its natural rigidity. As with the exhaust, the suspension also has a dedicated button for firming or softening.

There are 4 different driving modes: individual, normal, sport and sport +. The latter is indicated for track situations because it makes the car extremely skittish, while the individual can gather the best of what the driver wants between suspension, gear, engine and steering adjustments.

Despite being a sports car of almost R $ 500 thousand and 400 hp, the 718 Boxster GTS can also offer a friendly coexistence in everyday life.

The suspension, which can be comfortable, the light steering and the size of the model make it easy to drive.

At 4.38 meters long and 1.80 m wide, it has dimensions close to a Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Consumption is also a factor that facilitates socializing. According to Inmetro, the GTS reaches an average of 7.9 km / l in the city and 10.3 on the highway. The numbers are close to those of an automatic Jeep Renegade 1.8 fueled with gasoline, which does 9.4 and 11 km / l, respectively.

All of this can be used in a more intimate way, with the car all closed, or with the hair in the wind, opening the hood. It takes 9 seconds to open or close.

Perhaps the only "chic perrengue" for anyone who has never had contact with a Porsche is to start the car. As the brand's tradition in competitions, the game is always played on the left side of the steering wheel.

The list of standard items is not the main draw of the model, which has "basic" equipment such as two-zone digital air conditioning, start-stop system, digital display on the instrument panel, tire pressure monitoring and parking brake electronic.

Despite the Bose sound system (optional) with 505 watts, 10 speakers and subwoofer, the multimedia center does not have the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay platforms. However, there is bluetooth for calls and streaming audio, with a complicated pairing operation.

Parking sensors and the reverse camera are also optional, as are full-LED headlights. Despite the beautiful key, which replicates the shape and color of the car, it is not presential for starting the engine.

In January of this year, Porsche fulfilled the requests of the most purists and started to equip the 718 GTS with a 4.0 aspirated six-cylinder engine with 400 horsepower (35 more than the turbo). With the new "heart" and manual transmission, the model goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds.

The new engine has not yet arrived in Brazil, which should happen until the end of 2020, as soon as the version with PDK automatic transmission is launched.

Although in a more limited number of units, the model should also be sold with manual transmission here.

Regarding the 718 GTS models equipped with the 2.5 turbo, Porsche says that all of them destined for the Brazilian market have already been sold. Even so, it still appears on the brand's website. 9 of 9

Easy to drive, with great performance, excellent handling and still with the status of a Porsche, the 718 Boxster GTS may not be the most powerful in its price range, but it is the best among them. In addition, he proves that yes, a real sports car can also only have four cylinders.

However, if your intention was to buy a zero kilometer, there are two options: look for a used car soon or wait for 4.0.
