Sandi Toksvig quits The Great British Bake Off

Sandi Toksvig is leaving The Great British Bake Off as a presenter to focus on other work projects.

Toksvig presented the Channel 4 show with comedian Noel Fielding, along with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, for three years.

They replaced the duo Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc when the show left BBC1. Hollywood is the show's only original star after Mary Berry also left before the channel change.

All pudding things come to an end. The upcoming series of The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off will mark the end of Sandi's magnificent passage as host of the show. We would like to thank you for all the wonderful memories and wish you the best for the future. #GBBO pic.twitter.com/aEnEu00fqu

In a statement, the 61-year-old said: "When people leave their jobs, it is quite common for people to say that they are doing this to spend more time with their families.

"Unusually, I'm leaving Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work. As my waist will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show.

"Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships that I know will continue beyond the confines of television.

"Bake Off is a wonderful program that has proven to support a change of happy hosting staff.

"The reason for that, of course, is that the real stars of the show are the bakers themselves. I wish you all the best."

Toksvig will be at The Great Celebrity Bake Off's tent for Stand Up To Cancer, which starts in the spring, but it is unknown who will replace her at the show later this year.

Channel 4 Program Director Ian Katz said: "Sandi is a big part of why Bake Off's move to Channel 4 was a success and we are immensely grateful for his contribution to the program.

"We will miss your warmth and intelligence, not to mention your unending desire to be a joke about being the shortest person in Bake Off's tent."

Toksvig is carrying out other projects

Bake Off Judge Prue Leith tweeted: "I absolutely loved working with Sandi, she's been a brilliant host and a lot of fun, and I'm amazed at how much she works working on so many different projects.

"We'll be away from friends for life beyond the tent. #GBBO #sanditoksvig."

Toksvig, also known for hosting the QI and Fifteen To One question and answer programs, will host a new Channel 4 series called The Write Offs, which looks into the issue of adult literacy.
