One of the big questions that is at the tip of the players' tongues is: what will the PS5 price be? A new interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan may have potential PlayStation 5 buyers shaking their piggy banks.
In a broad interview with GamesIndustryBiz, Ryan addressed speculation about the cost of the PS5. Although it does not reveal the price, Ryan suggested that the price of the PS5 could have a significant impact on players' pockets and certainly does not commit to winning the Xbox Series X in price.
Talking about whether the potential for a Covid-19-related recession will affect sales of the high-value PS5, a gadget, Ryan said:
“I think the best way to resolve this is to provide the best possible value proposition. I don't necessarily mean the lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area, this means games, it means number of games, depth of games, variety of games, quality of games, price of games … all these things and how they make use of the platform's feature set “.
Price is always the main battleground on consoles, arguably more significant in the early days of selling a console than its game library or feature set. The PS3 lost to the Xbox 360 in price, and the roles were reversed in the next generation of the PS4 and Xbox One, with Sony undercutting Microsoft by $ 100 at launch. It is a critical decision in which both companies have not yet revealed their positions.
